Bruce Willis's wife reveals that the actor doesn't know he has dementia
Emma Heming Willis revealed in a recent interview that the actor's brain is
In a revealing and moving update on Bruce Willis's health, his wife, Emma Heming Willis, shared profound details about the reality the Die Hard star is experiencing.
In recent statements to People magazine that have gone viral, Heming confirmed that the dementia Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) has progressed to such an extent that the actor is no longer aware of his own medical condition.
“It’s hard to know if he knows what’s happening to him,” Heming explained, emphasizing that the disease not only affects the patient but completely transforms the family ecosystem.
According to the model and activist, the actor’s brain “is changing” in ways that make self-awareness almost nonexistent, a facet of dementia that is as painful as it is liberating in certain aspects for the patient, but devastating for their loved ones.
A Family Disease
Since the diagnosis became public in 2023, the Willis-Moore family has maintained a policy of transparency to raise awareness about FTD.
Emma described the situation as a “blessing and a curse”: the blessing of finally understanding what was happening, and the curse of watching Bruce’s essence gradually fade away.
“When they say "It's a family disease, it really is," Heming concluded, reaffirming her commitment to caring for the man who, although he no longer understands his diagnosis, remains the pillar of his home. Bruce Willis, now retired from acting, received his public diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia in 2023, after revealing in 2022 that he was living with aphasia. Since then, the family has taken steps to ensure his well-being and safety.
