BTS and the story behind 'ARIRANG', the title of the new album
The K-Pop group gave a nod to their country by choosing a title full of history and symbolism in Korean culture
Just days after announcing the dates and destinations of their 2026 world tour, the K-Pop band BTS surprised fans by revealing the title of their upcoming album, one full of history and symbolism for Korean culture. We'll tell you what we know so far!
“ARIRANG” is the name the renowned group chose for the album that will mark their return to the stage after almost four years of hiatus; it will be available on all digital platforms starting March 20.
And although the announcement caused an immediate stir among ARMY, the meaning behind the title chosen by BTS ended up confirming what many already suspected: the band's new musical project is one of the most personal of their career.
According to official information listed by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), this word song refers to the most emblematic folk of Korea, which was recognized in 2012 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by that organization.
It was also explained that the song is performed both in public celebrations and in the intimacy of Korean homes, and that its social function lies in strengthening community ties. Its lyrics address themes such as separation, reunion, pain, and hope, which has made it a symbol of unity and national pride. This meaning underscores what Jin, Suga, RM, j-hope, Jungkook, Jimin, and V said in their official statement: “We thank all the ARMYs who waited so long with unconditional support,” they emphasized. Another detail revealed in their statement is that “ARIRANG” comprises 14 songs that, according to the artists, “share honest stories that we always wanted to tell ARMY,” their most loyal fans.
