Jamie Campbell Bower revealed the challenges of playing 'Neighbor' in Stranger Things
The British actor reflected on his participation in the global phenomenon
Just days after the release of the final episode of the fifth season of “Stranger Things,” Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who played the saga's villain, gave an interview in which he shared his feelings about the story's conclusion and the challenges he faced during this project.
Despite the success he achieved with his performance as 'Neighbor,' the British actor confessed to The Hollywood Reporter that it is a great “relief” to be able to close this chapter of his life and embark on new projects.
“I feel much more relieved. It has been very nice to release the final episodes and feel like I can definitely leave the character behind,” the 37-year-old explained.
According to Campbell Bower, he was grateful for the evolution of characterization techniques, as this allowed him to focus on the new acting challenges that this final season brought.
“Last season was a Full prosthetics, from head to toe, which involved an application time of approximately seven and a half hours (…) Everything else was a motion-capture suit painted with vines and purple dots all over. So, even though it wasn't full prosthetics, what you're seeing in this final season is me,” he added. This allowed him to refine the details that made his character one of the most memorable on Netflix: “I worked on Whatsit (Mr. What) almost as if he were a distinct character, separate from the rest of the identities,” he shared. When asked about his most cherished moment from the filming process, Jamie Campbell Bower highlighted the presence of the child actors who brought lightness to the emotional weight of their scenes. “There's a great scene at the end of episode seven where we're all sitting around the table, a pretty creepy scene, but I remember laughing a lot with the kids during filming, which brought me back to reality. It made me think: 'Okay, I'm Jamie. It's nice to be here'acknowledged.
