Scarlett Johansson could join the sequel to 'The Batman'
After four years of leaving the Marvel Universe, Scarlett Johansson could be ready to join the world of DC Comics
Four years after saying goodbye to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scarlett Johansson is about to make a leap into a new superhero universe. According to Nexus Point News, the actress is in the final stages of negotiations to join the cast of 'The Batman Part II,' the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 hit directed by Matt Reeves. This move would be a major boost for the project, which is currently slated for release on October 1, 2027. If the deal goes through, Johansson would first complete her commitment to 'The Exorcist'—a project she was linked to last week—before focusing on the world of the Dark Knight. An actress in constant evolution: Johansson, considered one of the most bankable actresses in the industry, is world-renowned for her iconic role as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, her recent career demonstrates a search for new horizons. This year she starred in 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' and released her directorial debut, the drama 'Eleanor the Great', starring June Squibb. The sequel's production has had a complex development. Warner Bros. officially announced the film in April 2022 during CinemaCon. Initially scheduled for October 2025 by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, it suffered several delays before settling on its current 2027 release date. Robert Pattinson will return to play Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Matt Reeves directing and co-writing the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. The first installment, released in March 2022, was a commercial success, grossing $770.3 million worldwide, and spawned a spin-off for Max centered on Colin Farrell's Penguin. The original cast included Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffery Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Barry Keoghan in a mysterious cameo that many interpreted as a version of the Joker. The possible addition of Johansson to Gotham City marks a significant moment in the actress's career and adds a layer of intrigue to the already anticipated return of Reeves' version of the Batman universe. The star is considered one of the most important actresses in the industry, firstly because of the number of projects she is involved in and secondly because of her role as one of the most important producers in Hollywood, thanks to the company she founded called These Pictures.
