Gorillaz's new album, titled 'The Mountain', will be released on March 20, 2026 and will have 15 songs
After three years of waiting, the well-known band Gorillaz, a musical project led by Damon Albarn, officially announced their ninth studio album, titled 'The Mountain'. The post, published on Thursday, September 11, on social media, revealed an ambitious project filled with unexpected collaborations.
Slated for release on March 20, 2026, 'The Mountain' will feature 15 tracks that promise to be an auditory odyssey, fusing rock, hip-hop, electronica, world music, and experimentalism into a single sonic narrative.
This album follows the success of 'Cracker Island' (2023), consolidating Gorillaz as one of the few bands capable of filling stadiums and constantly reinventing themselves without losing their essence.
A boundary-breaking list of collaborators
What truly sets 'The Mountain' apart is its fascinating array of guest artists, hailing from all corners of the planet and across multiple generations:
Bizarrap and Trueno, who previously worked with Gorillaz on the hit 'Saturn Bar', return to bring their Argentine urban energy to 'Orange County' and 'The Manifiesto', respectively.
Legends Soul and jazz icons like Bobby Womack (The Moon Cave) and Tony Allen (The Hardest Thing) bring emotional depth and ancestral rhythm.
Indie and post-punk icons like Johnny Marr (The Plastic Guru), Mark E. Smith (Delirium) and IDLES (The God of Lying) elevate the album's critical, guitar-driven tone.
Emerging and unique voices like Asha Puhli, Asha Boshle, Black Thought (twice featured on The Empty Dream Machine and The Sad God), Omar Souleyman and Sparks complete an impressive cultural mosaic.
Even film and pop culture legends are included: Dennis Hopper (The Mountain) and Paul Simon (Casablanca) appear as symbolic figures in the titles, reinforcing the cinematic nature of the project.
Each song seems to be a universe apart, where the digital merges with the human, the virtual with the real. The band,Known for its animated characters—2D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs—it remains a vehicle for exploring themes of identity, technology, politics, and spirituality, but now with an even more global and diverse voice.
In line with its tradition of media innovation, Gorillaz also confirmed a new interactive experience within Fortnite, where fans will be able to experience an adventure inspired by 'The Mountain'.
