Actress Livia Brito has been formally charged for making false statements
It must be clarified that being formally charged does not mean she has been found guilty, but it does mean that a thorough investigation of the facts is required
Various Mexican media outlets are reporting that actress Livia Brito has been formally charged for making false statements, according to information from journalist Carlos Jimenez, who reported the facts through his official account on the social network X.
This entire case stems from an event last year In 2020, she was accused of physical assault and theft of equipment against photographer Ernesto Zepeda. The events took place in Cancun, according to several local media outlets. In 2025, the star of "La desalmada" lost her lawsuit for moral damages. Because of this, in June 2025, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) confirmed that Brito had to pay Zepeda compensation for moral damages, as reported by the Infobae website. What was the problem with Brito's statements? Basically, the actress denied having committed violence against Zepeda. Due to the above, a judge has now ordered her to be prosecuted for the crime of making false statements.
Journalist Jimenez, in his statement in “X”, explains that, since 2024, both paparazzi Zepeda and lawyer Angela Frias have denounced her, following statements in which the actress denied having participated in acts of violence.
Now then, what does it mean to be formally charged in Mexico?
To begin with, it must be clarified that this does not mean that the Cuban actress has been found guilty. No! It simply refers to the beginning of an investigation process that aims to get to the bottom of the facts.
This reveals that what is currently known about this case indicates that there is sufficient evidence to suggest some type of crime, for which a formal criminal investigation is required.
