The former member of "The Beatles" received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Liverpool
What a way to welcome his 86th birthday for British musician Ringo Starr, who in addition to being celebrated in style by his family and friends, was honored with the title of Honorary Doctor of Music.
According to a statement, the former member of “The Beatles” received this great honor at the hands of the rector of the University of Liverpool, Wendy Beetleston, in a private ceremony attended only by his loved ones.
During the delivery speech, the rector celebrated Ringo Starr's musical career, as well as the prestige he has given to his native Liverpool worldwide thanks to his humanitarian work.
"It is a great privilege to recognize Ringo, whose influential musical work, especially with The Beatles, has helped shape Liverpool's identity and global reputation. His contribution has been instrumental in making the city a place that inspires people to visit and study it. I was deeply honored to have the opportunity to present this award to Ringo today and witness, first-hand, the power of peace, love and music," said Beetleston.
For his part, the musician took advantage of the space to formally thank him for the title of Honorary Doctor of Music at the prestigious institution: "I feel very honored. Today is my birthday and, as everyone knows, I was born in Liverpool. It is my hometown and I will always love it," he began.
The singer of songs like “Yellow Submarine” and “Don't Pass Me By” continued by saying: “To all the graduates, I send you peace and love, and I want to tell you not to be afraid to follow your dreams, or to take that path to the right and see where it takes you… it could culminate in an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Liverpool,” he concluded.
The presentation of this title took place just a few hours before Ringo Starr began his annual celebration of peace and love in Beverly Hills Park, on the occasion of his 86th birthday.
