The iconic actress Victoria Ruffo, acclaimed for decades as the true "Queen of Telenovelas," is generating excitement after hints of her possible return to melodramas in the coming months.
The most recent statements come from her son, also an actor, Jose Eduardo Derbez. In a meeting with the press, Derbez revealed that, although he doesn't know all the details, his mother has had conversations about it. "I think she had a conversation with 'El Guero' Castro, but that's all. I don't know more," he explained.
However, he highlighted the public's affection: "People really like seeing my mom in telenovelas."
For his part, Jose Alberto "El Guero" Castro is one of the most important producers in Mexico. He is recognized for his extensive career at Televisa; he is the figure behind the production of successful telenovelas such as Rubi, Teresa, Por amar sin ley, and Los Hilos del Past. In addition, he is the brother of actress Veronica Castro and the uncle of singer Cristian Castro.
Ruffo's Statements
These comments are echoed in Ruffo's own words. In November 2025, the actress confirmed that she already has “an important project” in the works, although she preferred not to give premature details. “You never know what God has in store, but there are plans to do one,” she cautiously stated. For her, the fundamental elements of a good melodrama are a good character, a solid cast, quality production, and a suitable time slot. So far, there has been no official announcement from Televisa, but the production company has new projects in the pipeline, which opens the door to a possible surprise for fans. With a career spanning more than four decades, Victoria Ruffo is one of the most beloved and respected figures in Hispanic television. Among her most outstanding telenovelas are: La fiera (1983), Simply Maria (1989-1990), La madrastra (2005), Crown of tears (2012-2013), and more.
