What is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis?
According to the Mayo Clinic, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a disease of the nervous system that worsens over time and affects the neurons in the brain and spinal cord.
This condition, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, begins with muscle spasms and weakness in an arm or leg, difficulty swallowing, or difficulty speaking.
Over time, it affects the control of muscles for moving, speaking, eating, and breathing, and there is no cure, as Yolanda Andrade herself has pointed out.
