Amidst all this, WHO scientist Maria Van Kerkhove has tweeted expressing concern over the increasing cases of Covid around the world. Maria Van Kerkhove said that globally there has been a 15 percent increase in Covid cases and 35 percent in deaths in the last four weeks. He said cases would continue to occur given the limited use of public health and social measures.

Highlighting the challenge of determining the new variant of COVID-19, Maria Van Kerkhove said the lack of surveillance testing and sequencing is making the task challenging. He said that at present, the rapidly increasing infection of Omicron sub-variant ba.5 remains a major cause of concern. Cautioning against more such variants, he said that the corona virus still has no season. He said that new variants of Covid may be more permeable in future and nothing can be said about its severity as of now.

It is noteworthy that in a recent study, scientists said that Omicron's BA.5 variant can cause problems for people in many ways. Due to this the risk of re-infection is also being said to be higher than other variants. At the same time, in another study, experts have advised the victims of Long Covid to take special precautions regarding their risks. Researchers told that people who have long covid problems should avoid exercise.
