This time the mayor will be elected with a new equation. Compared to the last election, the BJP will look a bit stronger and the Aam Aadmi Party a bit weaker. At present, the BJP, which is in opposition in the Corporation, may have got another councilor from the Aam Aadmi Party in its favor just before the elections. AAP party's upper hand will still remain heavy in the House. But despite being in power in the Delhi Assembly and the Corporation as well, the AAP councilor joining the opposition in this way is undoubtedly a psychological advantage for the BJP. BJP is continuously getting the benefit of non-implementation of anti-defection law in the corporation.
In the MCD elections held on December 4, AAP had won 134 seats, BJP 104, Congress nine and three independent councillors. Immediately after the declaration of election results on December 7, Gajendra Daral, an independent councilor from Mundka ward, joined hands with Kamal. He was earlier also with BJP, but after not getting ticket from the party, he won the election as an independent and returned to the party again.
After this, just before the mayoral election held on February 24 last time, AAP councilor from Bawana Ward Pawan Sehrawat left the broom and held the lotus. Now just two days before the re-election, the Aam Aadmi Party has suffered a setback. This time, Sunita, a woman councilor from Aam Aadmi Party's Dwarka-C ward, has joined the BJP.
