After harvesting the paddy, some farmers set fire to its remaining residue (stubble). The government has given instructions to the district administration to completely ban this and has also asked to impose fine on those who burn stubble. A case of stubble burning had come to light in Badaun district, that too of a farmer from Sambhal district. According to the administration, farmers can increase their income by selling stubble to the HPCL plant. Do not burn stubble in the fields. By doing so, action may also be taken against the person concerned.

Earthworm is considered a friend of farmers, because it makes the land friable. Due to which its fertility increases, but burning of stubble kills earthworms and other bacteria. This affects crop production and also pollutes the environment. Keeping this in mind, the state government has banned burning of stubble. In this, the fine has been fixed from Rs 2,000 to Rs 15,000.

 

This year, a case of burning stubble near the border of the district by a farmer from Sambhal in the district came to notice. That farmer was explained and the concerned tehsil administration was also informed. Agriculture officer DK Singh said that HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) plant has been set up in Dataganj tehsil. Farmers can sell their stubble there. The stubble is being purchased by the HPCL plant at the rate of Rs 330 per quintal.
