Ladakh: 19th round of talks with China before BRICS conference, India's pressure for early withdrawal of troops

The 19th round of military talks were held on Monday between India and China in eastern Ladakh over the deadlock that has been going on for more than three years. In this, India pressed China for the earliest withdrawal of troops from other friction points including Depsang and Demchok. Along with this, discussions were also held on reducing the overall tension in the region. The military talks took place a week before the BRICS summit in South Africa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will participate in it.
Military sources said that the Corps Commander-level talks took place in Chushul-Moldo, the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC). In this dialogue, the Indian delegation insisted on the resolution of the disputed issues in Depsang and Demchok. He told that the talks between the two countries started at around 9.30 am on Monday, which lasted for about 10 hours.
Modi-Jinping meeting dependent on talks
According to sources, the meeting between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the BRICS summit in South Africa depends on the basis of these talks. If there is an agreement on the pending issues regarding the intrusion of the Chinese army in the military talks, then the way for talks between the leaders of the two countries can also be opened.
Lieutenant General Rashim Bali led the Indian side
No official statement has yet been issued regarding the talks between the two countries. The Indian side was led by Lieutenant General Rashim Bali, Commander of the Leh-based 14-Corps. At the same time, the Chinese side was led by the South Xinjiang Military District Chief. The relations between the two countries took a nosedive after the fierce skirmish in Galvan Valley in June 2020, which was the most serious military conflict between the two sides in decades.
18th round of talks in April
Sources say that just a day before the Corps Commander-level meeting, local military commanders of both sides held talks on Sunday. Earlier, the 18th round of talks took place on 23 April. In this too, India had insisted on withdrawing the army from Depsang and Demchok. There was no concrete progress in the 18th round of talks. The standoff has been going on for more than three years at some of the friction points in eastern Ladakh. Both countries have withdrawn troops from several areas after diplomatic and military talks.
