Maharashtra: The greed of earning more profits hit the businessman, lost Rs 58 crore in online gambling
The businessman became suspicious of the loss and demanded his money back, but the accused refused to return the money.
A businessman from Nagpur in Maharashtra lost Rs 58 crore in online gambling. On information, the police raided the house of a suspected bookie Anant alias Sontu Navratan Jain and recovered 4 kg gold biscuits and Rs 14 crore in cash. However, just before the raid, the accused fled from the spot.
Greed of high profits
Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that the bookie is suspected to have fled to Dubai. The official further said that in the preliminary investigation it appears that the accused had convinced the businessman to gamble online to earn more profits. Although the businessman was a little hesitant in the beginning, he later came around to Jain's words and gave him eight lakh rupees through a hawala trader.
Lost 58 crores after winning 5 crores
Kumar said the accused sent a link on WhatsApp to the businessman to open an online gambling account. The businessman got eight lakh rupees deposited in the account and started gambling. The Commissioner of Police said that after earning profits initially, the businessman suffered heavy losses. After winning about Rs 5 crore, he lost Rs 58 crore.
Suspicion of loss
The businessman became suspicious of the loss and demanded his money back, but the accused refused to return the money, the officer said. The businessman lodged a complaint with the cyber police, following which a case of cheating was registered. Police raided Jain's residence in Gondia. Rs 14 crore in cash and four kg of gold biscuits were recovered in the raid operation.
