The rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have caused huge devastation. More than 230 people have lost their lives in these two states since the month of June. Not only this, 84 people have died in these two states this week. Four people have lost their lives due to floods and rains in Punjab.
At least 68 people died and about 15 went missing this week due to landslides in Himachal. Bodies of 14 people have been recovered out of 21 people who went missing after a massive landslide in Summerhill area of Shimla. At the same time, 308 people trapped in floods were evacuated in Fatehpur and Indora areas of Kangra. Relief work has started once again this morning. 875 roads including Mandi-Kullu and Sainj-Aut National Highway are closed, and 1200 bus routes are disrupted. The state has suffered a loss of Rs 7659.93 crore due to the natural calamity. 16 people have lost their lives and 15 are missing in landslides in Uttarakhand this week.
Thakur's advice
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that instead of playing politics over the devastation caused by heavy rains, landslides and cloud bursts in Himachal Pradesh, everyone needs to work together. He appealed to all political parties including the Congress to leave politics and concentrate on helping the people. The Union Minister was talking to reporters after visiting the Bharat Mandapam on Thursday.
Flood will be known 24 hours in advance
