The priest had suffered 80 percent burns in the petrol bomb attack
Prior to the demonstration of the leaders, Pratap Singh, Police Station Officer of Deogarh (Rajsamand) said during a conversation with the media that the priest Navratna species died during treatment in Udaipur hospital on Saturday. His wife is also undergoing treatment in the same hospital. The police officer said that Navaratna Prajapati had sustained 80 percent burns while his wife Jamna suffered 35 percent burns due to the petrol bomb attack. He said that a total of seven accused have been arrested so far in connection with this incident. At the same time, the family members of the priest reached the SDM office of Deogarh subdivision with the dead body and started protesting with other demands including giving government jobs to two members of the family. Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari and other local leaders of the party also reached and joined the protest against the incident.
Some people objected to being a priest in the temple
According to media reports, priest Navratna Prajapati (72) was having dinner with his wife Jamna in a small residence in Hira ki Basti area of ​​Rajsamand district last Sunday night. Then 8-10 people allegedly threw petrol bombs at them, due to which both of them got scorched. Police officials say that some local people objected to Prajapati being the priest of a local Devnarayan temple and wanted someone else there.
Court hearing is going on regarding the land dispute
According to the police officials, there was also a dispute regarding the land of the temple and the matter of this dispute was already going on in the civil court of Deogarh, Rajsamand. The next hearing in the case is to be held on December 3. Navaratna had approached the police two-three times and had also complained against the accused to the Superintendent of Police and the District Collector.
Police did not take action despite SP's instructions
The Superintendent of Police said that he had given instructions to the SHO of Deogarh police station to take action, but he sent the case to the local outpost under the police station and no concrete action was taken against the accused. The priest has threatened earlier also and a complaint was also made against the accused, but no concrete action was taken in this matter. After the attack on the priest, the local police station officer and an outpost in-charge were suspended for negligence.
