Videos spread on the networks show the seconds before the plane hit, as well as a huge fireball and destruction in the area
Tragedy and horror were present this June 12 in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London's Gatwick Airport crashed in a residential area called Meghani Nagar five minutes after takeoff, with 242 passengers and crew on board.
For residents of the area it was a normal day, but the sound of a low-flying plane alerted them. One person looked out their window to record what was happening and captured the plane losing altitude and moments later crashing into a building.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, also shows the moment of the explosion, caused by the collision of the plane and the jet fuel. The fireball that forms is impressive and extends for several meters in all directions.
Other recordings show a huge column of black smoke coming out of the burning plane, which is visible from a distance. The plane was also captured on camera burning over the building.
The tragedy beyond the plane
Although what captured the most attention was the crashed plane that plunged four countries into mourning, since of the people on board, 169 were Indian citizens, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian, according to the airline in a statement, the accident site was also in chaos.
Images shared on social networks show hundreds of people gathered around the accident site, some watched in horror at what had just happened, others showed solidarity and began to help those affected, because although the police said that it is believed that there are no survivors of the flight, on the ground there were several injured.
Firefighters fighting to put out the fire, ambulances parked, injured people being taken to the hospital, stretchers moving along the street filled with water that extinguished the flames, are other scenes captured through the cameras of hundreds of witnesses to the tragedy.
The images also show burned-out cars and devastated buildings; people watched from their balconies what happened, and others directly at ground zero.
