Trump and Zelensky agree to meet at the NATO summit in The Hague
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andri Yermak, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, agreed to a meeting between the two leaders.
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andri Yermak, spoke this Tuesday from The Hague with the Secretary of State of the United States (US), Marco Rubio, about the meeting that the Ukrainian president hopes to hold, Volodymyr Zelensky with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the NATO summit to be held in the Dutch capital.
“We discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and US leader Donald Trump. The focus was on the structure of the meeting, the agenda, and the key issues to be addressed,” Yermak said on social media when reporting on the call with Rubio.
Zelensky, who will be in The Hague for the NATO summit, had already wanted to meet with Trump at the G7 summit in Canada, but the US president left before the Ukrainian leader arrived to deal with the escalation in the Middle East.
In their conversation on Tuesday, Zelensky’s chief of staff also conveyed to Rubio the promotion of “peace through strength” that the Trump administration claims to promote, at least in Middle East.
Yermak also spoke with Rubio about the prisoner exchange agreements reached between Ukraine and Russia in the Istanbul negotiations and asked for US support so that these humanitarian measures are soon joined by the return of the Ukrainian minors who are in Russia.
According to Yermak, Rubio confirmed that the US continues to demand from Russia the ceasefire of at least 30 days that kyiv has also unsuccessfully requested.
