Colorado Secretary of State sued for allowing those who have never lived there to vote
The Republican National Committee sued Jena Griswold for allowing some people who have never lived in Colorado to participate in their elections
The Republican National Committee (RNC) and two conservative elected officials filed a lawsuit against Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold for allowing some people who have never lived in Colorado to register and vote in state elections.
The Ohio Democrat allows people to vote based solely on the past residence of a parent, guardian or spouse, even if the person in question has never lived in Colorado or resides outside the country.
"Residency is not inherited nor can it be established by power. A person who has never made Colorado his home has not 'resided in this state' within the meaning of Article VII of the Colorado Constitution," indicates one point in the complaint.
For this reason, Republicans Jeff Crank, representative for Colorado's 5th congressional district; and Sheri Davis, Douglas County clerk and recorder, chose to file a lawsuit against the 41-year-old Democrat.
Through a message shared on social networks, Joe Gruters, president of the RNC, attacked what is happening in Colorado and that is what the lawsuit filed is based on.
“Once again, Democrats are trying to get people to vote in a state they have never lived in.
Jena Griswold is ignoring the Colorado Constitution and allowing non-residents to cast their votes in Colorado elections.
“The RNC is fighting these unconstitutional practices across the country, and we have filed this lawsuit to put an end to this,” he wrote.
One of the immediate points that conservatives intend to achieve with their lawsuit is the elimination of non-resident voters who do not comply with the requirements of Colorado's electoral rolls.
Through a statement, Jena Griswold was willing to defend the position by which her political adversaries try to display her in front of a court, as she assures that it is based on the so-called Voting Law for Uniformed and Overseas Citizens (UOCAVA).
"Military spouses and children of overseas voters who are U.S. citizens have the same rights and privileges as any other American. We look forward to winning this lawsuit in court," he said.
It should be noted that the RNC has filed similar lawsuits in at least five other states in the country.
