Petro releases videos to respond to Trump after accusations of alleged links to crime
In one of his posts, the President of Colombia wrote...
The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, shared a video on social media presenting a report on the achievements in the fight against drug trafficking during his administration.
“For those who call me the head of drug trafficking,” the president wrote in a message on X, which includes a video about the results of the security strategy he began implementing on August 7, 2022, when he took office as head of state in the South American country.
“The blows against drug trafficking in this administration are historic,” can be heard in the video as images of different operations are shown and it is announced that, in just under four years, more than 18,000 synthetic drug labs have been destroyed—that is, one every 40 minutes.
It also reports that 2,840 tons of cocaine have been seized, that nearly 47,000 hectares of illegal coca leaf cultivation have been eradicated, and another 30,000 are in the process of being replaced.
Furthermore, it claims that 60% of the blows Global drug trafficking operations were carried out with the collaboration of Colombian intelligence, and 14,000 criminals have been neutralized. “Our fight against drug trafficking will not cease,” it adds.
Previously, Petro shared another video of military personnel challenging Trump regarding a potential “invasion” of Colombia.
“Trump thinks Colombia will wave the white flag for him. Attack here and you’ll learn why you shouldn’t meddle in other people’s land,” the video says.
In addition, the president wrote alongside the clip: “Forward soldiers, tomorrow I will give orders to soldiers, both men and women, and to police officers.”
Although it is unknown what action Petro will take, this message marks a new chapter in the already turbulent relationship between the two leaders.
