Sheinbaum says it is “absolutely false” alleged CIA operation in central Mexico reported by CNN
The Mexican president assured that opposition groups seek to provoke a bad bilateral relationship with the US and justify a US intervention
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, denied this Wednesday that agents of the Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) of the US operate in territory m exicano, after a CNN report on an alleged covert operation in the State of Mexico in which a member of a drug-trafficking cartel died.
“It is absolutely false”, he said in his daily conference after the note attributed to the prosecutor of the State of Mexico information on the presence of C-agents IA in an operation that ended with the death of Francisco Efraín Beltrán, 'El Payín', alleged operator of the Sinaloa Cartel, on the outskirts of the Mexican capital.
Sheinbaum said to publication, and recalled that the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, also rejected the version.
“First, it is false that CIA agents operate in territory”, said the Mexican governor, who clarified that there are permissions for agencies of the United States, but “perfectly marked” by the Mexican Constitution and the National Security Law.
“Only those are accredited by the United States Government to perform tasks that are perfectly determined by the National Security Law,” he insisted.
Sheinbaum called CNN's version as “sensationalist” and “liars”, and said that even the CIA spokesperson came out to deny it, something that, according to he stated, surprised him.
He also criticized a subsequent publication by The New York Times, which noted later that the CIA had provided information to locate 'El Payín' and that the bomb that caused the drug-trafficker's death had been planted by Mexican authorities.
"It's absurd. As if there were a special area of the Government of Mexico dedicated to planting bombs to eliminate criminal groups, it's a fiction of the size of the universe," he expressed.
The president linked these versions with groups from Mexico and the United States that, according she said, are seeking to cause a bad bilateral relationship and justifying a US intervention in Mexican territory.
“The important thing is that we don't fall into that trap and that provocation, neither the Government nor the citizens (…) Of course that "We collaborate so that there is no drug trafficking, but the main objective is peace and security of the people of Mexico," he concluded.
This alleged CIA operation, reported by CNN, occurs in the tensions of Mexico and Washington due to external interference, after the General Prosecutor's Office al de la República (FGR) opened an investigation into the alleged participation weeks ago of two US agents in an anti-drug operation in Chihuahua.
