The profound decline of the United States and the loss of its former hegemony have become evident in many ways in recent times. The deterioration of its infrastructure, the decline of its cities, its erratic leadership, the deprofessionalization of public service, the multiple social problems, the epidemic of addiction to synthetic drugs, the enormous political and economic polarization, as well as the The deterioration of the education system and the standard of living in that country reflects the reality of an empire in clear decline. The United States is no longer what it once was, and its role in the world is considerably diminished. This is why Trump won the presidency twice by promising to “make America great again.” In the present era, this nation is losing its influence in various regions of the world and retreating to concentrate mainly on its own continent. It is not surprising, then, that the once-powerful world power is turning its back on those who were its allies in various parts of the globe. Nor is it surprising that it is abandoning its role as the supposed redeemer and policeman of the world, nor its leadership in the international system—which this nation created and led for its own benefit after World War II. In this context, the United States is making a fundamental shift in its foreign policy and turning inward again, concentrating on what it calls the “Western Hemisphere.” The reaffirmation of the Monroe Doctrine in what is now called the “Trump Corollary”—as a core part of the current 'National Security Strategy'—appears to be the key element defining a new order and role for the United States in a multipolar world in which it is rapidly losing influence. Thus, recalling the supposed slogan “America is for the Americans,” the Trump administration is attempting to regain control of the continent, starting with Greenland, by declaring a national emergency (with all that this implies), waging a kind of war against what it now calls “narco-terrorism,” and promising to reconquer the Panama Canal. From Washington, Trump threatens Mexico with military intervention and attempts are being made to impose regime change in Venezuela.At the same time, oil tankers are seized and vessels are bombed in international waters under the pretext of combating fentanyl trafficking—a drug now considered a “weapon of mass destruction” to further legitimize militarism in the Americas. The reality is that the new US foreign policy seems to have nothing to do with drug trafficking, but rather stems from a desperate attempt to regain control of all the lost areas of the continent and eliminate the influence now exerted by other powers (mainly China) in the Americas. Venezuela, its oil, its land, and its other resources are now a priority for the United States. If Trump cannot remove Maduro from power and does not recover the lost spheres of influence in the Americas, the Monroe Doctrine will die. Therefore, we live in very dangerous times. The United States maintains great military power and will do whatever it takes to preserve its doctrine and its hegemonic power in the Americas. Were it not for the enormous pressures of the military encirclement and the embargo, the attacks would very likely escalate directly to Venezuelan territory. And the next target might be Mexico. We still don't know for sure how the Trump corollary will materialize in the rest of the continent during a time of US decline and the end of a liberal order. We are living in times of profound change, and Mexico's future seems uncertain amidst a leadership crisis in the neighboring country. Despite its enormous wealth, abundant resources, and great military power, the United States is crumbling from within. Economic and social polarization is extreme, contradictions reign, and those making the most important decisions in that nation do not appear to be serious, capable, or professional individuals. The country is currently run by influencers, television presenters, and figures lacking moral authority, questioned by scandal, conflicts of interest, and commitments to actors who claim land and possess strategic interests outside the continent. Such is the situation in America, which today does not seem to be a peaceful or safe place for all Americans.
