Trump orders lethal attack against Islamic State targets in Nigeria
The United States recently designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act.
President Donald Trump ordered a “powerful and lethal strike” against Islamic State forces in Nigeria on Thursday, December 25, following attacks on the Christian population.
“Tonight, under my direction as Commander-in-Chief, the United States launched a powerful and lethal strike against the terrorist scum of ISIS in Northwest Nigeria, who have been brutally attacking and murdering, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen in many years, and even centuries!” the president announced on social media.
He warned that the attacks will cease
The president stated that he had warned members of the Islamic State (ISIS) last month that they would cease their attacks against Christians. He ordered the Department of Defense to plan for possible military action in Nigeria.
“I previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the massacre of Christians, all hell would break loose, and tonight it did. The War Department executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of,” the Republican stated.
The State Department had announced that it would restrict visas for Nigerians involved in the massacres and violence against the Christian community.
“I will not allow Islamic terrorism to prosper”
“Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper. God bless our Armed Forces and I wish a MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead terrorists, who will be many more if the massacre of Christians continues,” Donald Trump concluded his message.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the attack on the Islamic State in his X account, where he also thanked the Nigerian government for its support.
“The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end.The @DeptofWar is always ready, as ISIS discovered tonight on Christmas,” Hegseth pointed out.
The United States recently designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” under the International Religious Freedom Act. “Our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to flourish,” Trump stated.
The Pentagon did not specify which locations were attacked, but shared that it will release more information as soon as it has it.
