Netanyahu assures that Trump seeks an agreement with Iran, but will resort to force if diplomacy fails
The Israeli prime minister supported the US president's strategy and defended the joint offensive against the Iranian nuclear program
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, affirmed that Donald Trump maintains reaching an agreement with Iran through negotiation as a priority, although he warned that the American president is willing to resort to military force if Tehran fails to comply with its commitments or diplomatic efforts fail.
In an interview with NBC News, Netanyahu maintained that the White House is committed to exhausting diplomatic channels, especially regarding the Iranian nuclear program, but made it clear that Washington does not rule out new military actions.
“I believe that President Trump wants to exhaust all possibilities of reaching an agreement, especially regarding the nuclear issue, through negotiations,” said the head of the Israeli government. However, he added that "it is obvious" that the US president "has no qualms about resorting to force when the Iranians fail to comply with all the commitments they make."
The statements come at a time of high tension in the Middle East, after the military offensive launched by the United States and Israel against facilities linked to the Iranian nuclear program and after the deterioration of negotiations to stabilize the region. In recent weeks, Washington has insisted that it keeps the door open to dialogue, although it has reiterated that it will not accept Iran developing military nuclear capabilities.
The Israeli Prime Minister's statements come while diplomatic efforts persist to contain a new escalation in the Middle East, in a scenario where the United States maintains open negotiations with Iran, but continues to reinforce its military presence in the region and warns that it will respond strongly to any violation of the commitments reached.
