With home runs from Christian Walker, Dominican Yainer Diaz, and Venezuelan Jose Altuve, the Texans sealed a perfect series on California soil.
Right-hander Ryan Gusto was key on the mound. While he didn't completely dominate, he did his job effectively: he pitched six innings, allowing just one run on four hits, and striking out one. But the highlight was how he managed to contain the Dodgers' main offensive figures.
Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Cuban Andy Pages were practically silenced. Between the four of them, they only managed two hits in 12 at-bats. It was an outstanding performance by the Astros starter that left the Angels' artillery without an answer.
Key at-bat and perfect bullpen
The go-ahead run came in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Zack Short, batting ninth in the order, drew a walk after an eight-pitch at-bat off reliever Will Klein. The walk gave the Astros a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Houston added two more runs in the seventh inning on home runs by Díaz and Altuve, and Christian Walker also homered in the eighth to close out the scoring. The bullpen took care of any comeback attempts: Bennett Sousa, Bryan King, and Dominican Bryan Abreu pitched perfect innings, allowing no runs. Abreu also closed out the game with authority by striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning. For the Astros, Mexican Isaac Paredes went 1-for-5, while Honduran Mauricio Dubon went 1-for-4. For the Dodgers, Dalton Rushing drove in the home team's only run.
Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, He allowed one run and five hits in five innings. He struck out four and issued one walk.
