Four teams would have shown interest in a transfer for LeBron James
The Lakers star entourage assures that there are no active conversations, but his future beyond 2025 remains uncertain
LeBron James' future in the NBA has returned to the center of debate. Amid the uncertainty surrounding his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, four teams have reportedly contacted his agent, Rich Paul, to explore a possible trade, according to ESPN journalist Dave McMenamin.
While McMenamin did not reveal which franchises are interested, he did clarify that James has not asked to be traded. In fact, Rich Paul assured that he has not even spoken with LeBron about the possibility.
Despite this, speculation is growing around his next move.
Is LeBron staying or going?
Just a few days ago, Paul confirmed that LeBron would exercise his $52.6 million player option for the 2025-26 season. However, he also made it clear that the four-time NBA champion's priority is to continue competing for titles, which opens the door to other options should the Lakers fail to put together a contending team. The rumors intensified when Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst, also of ESPN, reported that several franchises have begun considering an offer for James. Among them, the Golden State Warriors, according to the report. Although any move would require the approval of LeBron himself, who has a no-trade clause in his contract. For now, the 39-year-old forward has given no signs of wanting to change teams. On Saturday night, he attended the Lakers' Summer League game in Las Vegas to support his son Bronny, and declined ESPN's invitation to speak on air. "I have nothing to talk about," was his only comment.
The situation becomes more complex considering the Lakers have yet to offer him an extension beyond the 2025-26 season. Furthermore, according to ESPN, the organization has focused its long-term strategy on Luka Doncic, not James.
