This Saturday a collectible sports card broke the record for the most expensive in history by selling for $12,932,000 dollars.

The collectible in question has the image of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant and is signed by both players. The auction house that raised the record sum was Heritage Auctions, and as is often the case, the identity of the buyer was not revealed.

After the record sum, the card became the second most expensive collectible in the world, although it was still far from the first place, which is still held by the 1932 Babe Ruth World Series jersey, which sold for $24.12 million last year.

It also evidently surpassed the record for the most expensive basketball card in history, which belonged to a LeBron James card that sold in $5.2 million.

The previous owner held onto the card for over 10 years and decided to put it up for auction after rejecting seven-figure offers.

The auction house’s forecast was for it to fetch over $6 million, but it also came as no surprise when it reached nearly $13 million.

“The pre-auction estimate was over $6 million, so sometimes if a piece is as unique as this one, it’s actually beneficial to let it live. New collectors or people willing to participate and pay more can come along,” Chris Ivy, director of sports auctions for Heritage Auctions, told ESPN.
