Nacho Berist in saw no progress in Pitbull Cruz
Nacho Berist in explained that Pitbull Cruz is still the same fighter as always and he proved it in his fight with Salcido
Ignacio 'Nacho' Berist in did not see any technical progress in Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz despite his dominant performance over Omar Salcido and being crowned interim weight champion World Boxing Council (WBC) super lightweight.
In statements collected by Izquierdazo, Berist in explained that Pitbull Cruz is still the same fighter he always was and he proved it in the confrontation with Salcido.
"The fight didn't appeal to me. I did see it, but the fighter he fought was worse than hell. All the rounds went by and it's evident that the kid hasn't advanced at all technically. He's still the same fighter who is strong and throws a lot of punches too. I don't think he has advanced, I don't see any progress in him," said the famous trainer.
The Mexican dominated the fight from start to finish, landing many more power punches than Salcido. Although his rival showed great courage and resilience, managing to last the full 10 rounds, Pitbull Cruz was clearly superior and took the victory by unanimous decision (99-89, 99-89, and 100-88), consolidating his position as interim world champion at 140 pounds.
According to data from Compubox, the new interim champion far surpassed his compatriot in punches landed, with 195 (190 power) out of 546 thrown, while Omar Salcido only connected on 79 (74 power).
Pitbull Cruz was going to fight Angel Fierro for the second time, but due to medical problems related to the weight cut, Omar Salcido came in as a last-minute replacement. It is currently unknown whether the rematch with 'Tashiro' will be rescheduled or the champion will look for new names to defend his title.
