The Indian men's badminton team has missed out on a gold medal in the Hangzhou Asian Games. He faced strong China in the final. They defeated India 3-2 in the final. India had to be satisfied with the silver medal. Team India has won a medal in this event after 37 years. This is the first time that the Indian men's badminton team has won silver at the Asiad.

There are a total of five matches in the team competition. There are three singles and two doubles matches. If a team takes three consecutive matches then the match ends there, otherwise the match becomes best of five. The Indian team was ahead 2-0 at one time after winning the first two matches. Lakshya Sen in singles and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in doubles gave India the lead.

However, after this China made a comeback and won the next three matches and captured the gold. In the third match, Kidambi Srikanth faced defeat in singles, in the fourth match, Dhruv Kapila-Sai Pratik pair in doubles and in the fifth singles match, Mithun Manjunath faced defeat.

If Srikanth had won the match, gold would have come to India's kitty. At the same time, currently India's number one badminton player HS Prannoy did not play the final due to a back injury. His not playing was costly for Team India. Mithun had to play in his place.

The Indian men's badminton team has never won gold in the Asian Games till date. India's last medal in this event came in 1986. The men's team has not won any medal more than bronze in this event. In 1974 and 1982 also, the Indian men's badminton team had won bronze. The men's badminton team event has been played at the Asian Games since 1962. For the first time in 61 years, India has won a silver medal in the men's badminton team event. At the same time, India has not got any medal in this event after 37 years.

In the first match, Lakshya Sen and Shi Yuchi came face to face. Lakshya won this match 22-20, 14-21, 21-17. There was a tough competition in the first game between Lakshya and Shi Yuchi. Lakshya won the first game 22-20. After this Shi Yuchi made a comeback and won 21-14. In the third game, Lakshya was trailing 13-9 at one point. After this he made a strong comeback and leveled the score at 16-16. After this, Lakshya won the game by 21-17. In this way India took a 1-0 lead over China.

In the second match, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy faced Yong Duo Liang and Weng Cheng in men's doubles. Chirag-Satwik won the first game easily 21-15. The Indian pair maintained dominance in this game and did not allow the Chinese pair to score points. After this, Chirag-Satvik won the second game also by 21-18. In this way both of them gave India a 2-0 lead over China.

In the third match, India's Kidambi Srikanth faced Shifeng Li in singles. Shifeng defeated Srikanth 24-22 in the first game. After this, in the second game, Shifeng defeated Srikanth 21-9. China made a comeback and reduced the lead to 1-2. China's Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi defeated the pair of Dhruv Kapil and Sai Prateek 21-6, 21-15. In the fifth match, China's Weng Hongyang defeated Mithun Manjunath 21-12, 21-4. In this way India had to be satisfied with the silver medal.

The Indian men's team entered the final by defeating South Korea 3-2 in a tough match on Saturday. HS Prannoy defeated Jeon Hyeok Jin 18-21, 21-16, 21-19 to take a 1-0 lead. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were defeated by Seong-Min pair 13-21, 24-26. Lakshya then defeated Lee Youngyu 21-7, 21-9. Arjun-Dhruv Kapila lost to Kim-Sungseong 16-21, 11-21, but in the decider, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Cho Jeongyap 12-21, 21-16, 21-14 to take India to the final.
