The top court made the remarks during the hearing of the board's plea seeking amendments to its constitution with regard to the tenure of its office bearers, including its president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah. This includes the abolition of the mandatory cooling-off period (not holding any office for three years) between the term of office bearers of state cricket associations and BCCI.

The top court said that it will continue the hearing on Wednesday and then pass orders, as per the BCCI constitution, requiring an official to undergo a cooling-off period of three years between two consecutive terms of the state association or the BCCI or both jointly.
