Antonio Brown was arrested in Dubai and extradited to the United States to face an attempted murder charge in Miami, Florida
Antonio Brown, former star of the National Football League (NFL), was arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and extradited to the United States to face charges of attempted murder that occurred six months ago in Miami, Florida.
Brown, who has a long history of legal troubles, was arrested in the Middle East by US Marshals and flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is facing charges while awaiting extradition to Miami, Florida.
According to information provided by Miami Police spokesperson Mike Vega, the controversial player is being held in New Jersey and is only waiting for the order to transfer him to Florida to supposedly answer to an attempted murder charge.
However, the real reasons why Brown was initially taken to New Jersey or how long he was in Dubai are unknown, especially since he posted messages from that distant city in recent months.
The Arrest Warrant
For now, the arrest warrant states that the matter in which he is criminally implicated details a shooting that occurred on May 16, where Brown was accused of taking a gun from a member of the security staff. After a boxing match, he allegedly shot a man twice with whom he had had an altercation moments earlier. According to the arrest warrant detailing the May 16 shooting, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security guard after the boxing match and firing two shots at a man with whom he had a previous altercation. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck, which is why the former NFL star will have to face the charges. Although court documents do not yet specify whether Brown has an attorney, much less estimate how long his transfer to Miami might take. The penalty Brown faces if convicted of attempted murder is a fine of up to $10,000 and a maximum prison sentence, should the legal process result against him. Meanwhile, Hollywood police say he is being charged with assault and robbery and that he allegedly turned himself into police a day after authorities issued an arrest warrant, said his attorney, Eric Schwartzreich.Brown played 12 years in the NFL, where he became an All-Pro wide receiver, last playing in 2021 with Tampa Bay, but spent most of his career with Pittsburgh. During his NFL career, he amassed 928 receptions for over 12,000 yards and 83 touchdowns.
Recurring legal troubles
Brown was previously accused of assaulting a moving truck driver, several domestic violence charges, failure to pay child support, and other incidents.
During a 2021 game with Tampa Bay against the New York Jets, Brown removed his jersey, shoulder pads, and gloves and ran off the field, leading to his release by the Buccaneers and ending his football career.
