The Mexican boxer Saúl Canelo Álvarez is going through a different stage in his professional career. After giving up his belts, the fighter now assumes the role of challenger within the super middleweight division.

His opportunity to regain ground will be against the WBC monarch, Christian Mbilli.

This fight is scheduled for September 12 in Saudi Arabia under the event called “Mexico against the World.”

Unification options in the short term

If he manages to win in the Middle East, the Mexican's plan is to unify titles between December and February. Canelo Álvarez seeks to regain his position at the top of 168 pounds as soon as possible.

The boxer's team ruled out a rematch against his compatriot Jaime Munguía, current WBA champion. This decision reduces the list of opponents to the owners of the WBO and IBF titles.

The stage between the new champions

Hamzah Sheeraz recently captured the WBO title after defeating Alem Begic in two rounds. For his part, Osleys Iglesias holds the IBF championship after knocking out Pavel Silyagin.

When asked by the press about these rivals, Canelo Álvarez proposed a direct crossing between them. The Mexican suggested that both monarchs should measure themselves in the ring to define the next challenger.

"I think they have to fight each other, and then I will fight the winner. It's the smartest thing they can do," the boxer told the media present during his press conference.

"We all have to earn what we deserve, and so do they. That's why they are champions, but they have to fight among themselves, and after my fight, we'll see," the man from Guadalajara added about the outlook for the division.

Readiness to fight in England

The journalists raised the possibility of taking an eventual fight against Sheeraz to British territory. Given this query, Canelo Álvarez was receptive to organizing a card in England in the future.

"Yes, we'll see later. Why not?" the fighter responded about the feasibility of traveling abroad. “I have my fight on September 12, and he just had his, we'll see,” he told reporters.

Sheeraz's response from Egypt

The development of this crossing took shape after the Mexican witnessed Sheeraz's victory in the Pyramids of Giza. From Egypt, the WBO champion responded to the possibility of this confrontation.

“Sharing the ring with him would be an honor, and if I have the opportunity, I will undoubtedly take the victory, for sure,” said Sheeraz when questioned after his fight, with the Mexican located in the front row.

The British fighter added that his goal is to get all the belts and fight anyone. In case these plans change, Canelo Álvarez keeps contenders such as Jermall Charlo, Lester Martínez and Diego Pacheco on the list.
