Frank Martin doubts Boots Ennis can withstand Ortiz's punching power
Frank Martin commented that this fight is crazy because of both fighters' styles, but he thinks Ortiz Jr. would have the advantage over Boots Ennis because of his powerful punching
Frank Martin, a 135-pound contender, doubts that Jaron 'Boots' Ennis can withstand the powerful punching of Vergil Ortiz Jr., the interim WBC super welterweight champion, if the fight between them materializes.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Martin commented that this fight is crazy because of both fighters' styles, but he thinks Ortiz Jr. would have the advantage over Boots Ennis due to his powerful punching. "Boots is a fighter who gives his all. The question is, however, if he can handle another boxer with a powerful punch who's going to land those hard shots, can he withstand them against a puncher as powerful as Vergil Ortiz Jr.?" he said. "Their styles clash. It's a crazy fight. We've seen Boots take some really hard shots. I don't think he's taken any clean hits from a puncher like Vergil. His defense could be flawless the night he fights Vergil. Maybe not. We don't know," he said. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, an agreement has already been signed for this fight to take place, and all that's missing is the Mexican-American's signature. Although Oscar De La Hoya made it clear that they will only accept the fight if the terms favor Ortiz Jr.
Remember that Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. were in negotiations to face each other at 147 pounds, but Boots preferred not to take the fight at that time. After this, both teams exchanged provocations, but now it seems that this fight will become a reality.
In his last fight, Ortiz Jr. showed no mercy to Lubin and finished him in the second round. In contrast, Ennis made a spectacular debut at 154 pounds by knocking out Uisma Lima in the first round and winning the WBA interim championship.
Vergil Ortiz Jr., 24, defended his WBC interim super welterweight championship and is willing to face anyone next.
The Mexican-American boxer maintains his undefeated record after 23 fights, 21 of them by knockout in his professional career. Meanwhile, Jaron 'Boots' Ennis, 27, is a former unified IBF and WBA welterweight champion, and made a successful debut at 154 pounds. The American fighter is undefeated after 36 fights, 31 of them by knockout.
