Guillermo Ochoa could play another World Cup, according to Adría Chávez
The former Mexican goalkeeper highlighted Ochoa's professionalism and physical condition. Adrián Chávez considers that "Memo" should save in the 2026 World Cup
Guillermo Ochoa has been one of the leaders of the Mexican team in recent World Cups. “Memo” calls have been questioned. Analysts and sports personalities consider that Javier Aguirre must give way to “new blood” in the Mexican goal. But the legendary Adrián Chávez has another perception.
Adrián Chávez is the goalkeeper who has played the most official matches in the history of the Águilas del América. Chávez is a former goalkeeper with a lot of caliber and experience. Adrián was questioned about Guillermo Ochoa's call to the 2026 World Cup at 40 years old.
"Why do they say that Cristiano Ronaldo, at 40 years old, is a 20-year-old kid? Well, because of his physical condition. Fortunately, Memo Ochoa is a player who has not been injured, thank God, he is a family friend, you always see him as 100% professional and as long as he does not get mentally tired he can play until the next World Cup," said Chávez in an interview with Heraldo Deportes.
Experience is key
Adrián Chávez believes that Guillermo Ochoa has done everything possible to maintain a good level at 40 years old. “Memo” remains active and in its last three seasons has once again accumulated experiences in Europe. Ochoa has saved Italy, Portugal and Cyprus.
"As long as he is physically well trained, he has the speed, power and resistance of a 20-year-old kid. That's what people haven't understood. You position yourself better, you do things better, you know how to move better, which a rookie goalkeeper doesn't do (...) That's what experience gives: knowing how to position yourself, being better prepared, reading the plays better, making better effective decisions to resolve," he explained.
The former Club América goalkeeper was questioned about the possibility of there being another performer under the three sticks of El Tri in the World Cup. Adrián Chávez respected the weight of experience and hinted at his favoritism over Guillermo Ochoa.
"Not me. And you know why, because it's a World Cup... I'll leave it there," he said.
