The successful Mexican cyclist won the first round of the Mexican national championship, in front of his people and in the city where he was born
The Mexican cyclist of the moment, Isaac del Toro, returned to Mexico and became a prophet in his homeland, winning the elite individual time trial race at his country's National Championship that started this Thursday in Ensenada, Baja California.
The runner-up in the Giro de Italy and who achieved 16 victories in the 2025 season, lived up to expectations and won the first of the two events in which he will compete in the Mexican championship.
On October 23, he was proclaimed champion with a time of 25:25.74 in the 16-kilometer course, ahead of Edgar David Cadena and Eder Frayre who finished 1:13.06 and 1:24.00 behind respectively.
At 21 years old, Isaac del Toro won one of the most significant titles of his career, as he did so in front of his people, in the city where he was born. It was a great achievement that highlights his rise in the sport and that served to inaugurate his 2026 season on the UCI calendar with a victory, since the points obtained will be added for the next year.
This campaign, the Mexican cyclist finished third in the International Cycling Union (UCI) world rankings, with 5,314 points, only behind the Dane Jonas Vingegaard, who is in second place with 5,499 and the Slovenian leader Tadej Pogacar, his teammate at UAE Emirates, who finished with 11,680.
As expected, the reception of the cyclist at the Vinedos del Mar, where the test took place, was incredible for the Mexican and the ovation of the people who were present confirmed it, as well as when he reached the finish line in the Valle de Guadalupe.
The Mexican national championship will continue on Saturday, October 25 with the elite road test, where del Toro is also favorite.
