José Juan Macías assures that he will return stronger after his injury
The UNAM Pumas forward has not played for more than 6 months. José Juan Macías sees his return to activity in Mexican soccer with optimism
José Juan Macías has had to overcome multiple injuries in his career. The 26-year-old forward could not play a single match in Clausura 2026 of Liga MX due to a torn ligament. Although this has been a constant in his career, Macías hopes to return to the activity with the same enthusiasm as always.
The UNAM Pumas reached the final of the Liga MX. Although he did not play a game, José Juan Macías acknowledged that the defeat affected him. Despite falling just short of the title, the Mexican striker sees something special in his teammates.
"The final hurts, I'm not going to lie to you. But seeing my teammates leave everything on the field, with that character and that identity, fills me with pride. This team has something special: we are united and committed," Macías wrote on his social networks.
José Juan Macías has not played an official match since November 8, 2025. This was the date on which the Mexican forward was injured again. This made Macías watch the entire Clausura 2026 from the stands. However, the former Getafe forward did not feel excluded from the team.
"I had to experience this tournament from the outside, recovering from my knee, and even so I never felt far away. Thanks to the fans for every message, every cheer and every show of affection. It really feels like it," he added.
José Juan Macías' injuries
José Juan Macías' physical problems date back to 2022. Wearing the Chivas de Guadalajara shirt, “JJ” suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Mexican had to undergo surgery and was away from the courts for more than 200 days.
In February 2023, Macías had a severe relapse. His right knee played tricks on him again. Macías suffered a new tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. On this occasion the Mexican was off the field for more than 250 days.
In September 2024, already wearing the Santos Laguna uniform, José Juan Macías was forced to stop his action for several months. The Mexican's inconsistency caused his muscles to suffer when he returned to the field. This caused Macías to lose several games with the Lagunero team and also in his time with the UNAM Pumas.
In November 2025, another serious injury would arrive for Macías. In a duel against Cruz Azul, “JJ” again suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, rupture of the medial collateral ligament and tear of the medial meniscus. But this time it was the left knee. This is the injury that currently keeps him away from the courts.
"We will come back stronger. And I will soon return to adding from within," he concluded.
