Mauricio Sulaiman explains why Ryan Garcia was reincorporated into the WBC
Mauricio Sulaiman was pleased with the WBC's decision regarding Garcia and welcomed him back
Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), explained that Ryan Garcia was reinstated to the organization because he passed the psychological tests and addressed his mental health issues.
In statements to the press at the end of the Tuesday Coffee event, Sulaiman expressed his satisfaction with the WBC's decision regarding Garcia and welcomed him back. “Ryan Garcia has gone through significant mental health issues, addiction problems, and physical health issues, and we expelled him from the World Boxing Council after a series of very unfortunate situations,” they said. “But we always invited him to take the necessary steps for rehabilitation, medical care, and psychological treatment. He has already passed, he has already done so, and we welcome Ryan Garcia back to the World Boxing Council,” they added. It's worth remembering that King Ry was expelled by the WBC for making racist and discriminatory comments during a live broadcast in 2024, the same year the boxer tested positive for doping after his fight with Devin Haney and suffered from mental health problems. According to Mike Coppinger, writing for The Ring magazine, Ryan Garcia is close to finalizing an agreement with Mario Barrios to fight for the welterweight title in the first quarter of 2026. Both teams have already exchanged contracts. The Californian had already expressed his interest in facing Barrios to win the title and pursue a money fight against Manny Pacquiao or a rematch with Rolando 'Rolly' Romero. This news hasn't gone down well with fans because they think he's being given an unfair opportunity. Ryan Garcia, 25, returned to action after a year of inactivity due to a doping suspension and lost for the second time in his career to Rolly Romero. The Mexican-American has a record of 24 wins (20 by knockout), two losses, and one no contest in his professional career.
