The Mexican National Team closed out 2025 ranked 15th in the FIFA Ranking, according to the latest update published by the world football governing body this Monday, December 22. Spain continues at the top of the ranking, followed by Argentina and France, on a podium that remained unchanged from the previous update. The stability in these positions is largely explained by the absence of official national team competitions at the end of the year, which reduced the margin for significant movements in the table. For Mexico, 15th place represents a positive finish in a year of transition and adjustments, especially under the process led by Javier Aguirre. The national team managed to stay within the top 15, a zone considered key for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada between June 11 and July 19.
A year of rises and adjustments in the ranking
The Tricolor's journey throughout 2025 in the FIFA Ranking was marked by ups and downs, although with a generally favorable balance. Mexico began the year in 19th place, the same position it held in the last update of 2024, reflecting a previous period of inconsistent results and performance. The first update of the year, published on April 3, showed a slight improvement, climbing two positions to 17th. Subsequently, on July 10, the Mexican National Team reached its best ranking of the year, appearing in 13th place, an advance that confirmed a positive streak in its international performance. However, this momentum was not sustained. In the update of September 18, Mexico dropped one place to 14th, a position it maintained on October 16.By November 20, El Tri had dropped another spot, settling at 15th, the position it will hold through the end of 2025.
