Nicolás Larcamón prepares for his first experience in Europe
After being fired from Cruz Azul, Nicolás Larcamón will have the most important project of his career. The Argentine will command Sporting de Gijón of Spain
The Argentine coach Nicolás Larcamón will arrive this Friday in Gijón to close his incorporation to Sporting de Gijón as a new coach with a contract for one season and the option for a second depending on sporting objectives.
Larcamón will pass by the Mareo facilities in the next few hours to sign the documentation and seal his arrival on the rojiblanco bench, which he will formally assume as of July 1.
The coach will be present this Sunday at El Molinón to watch the match against Almería (6:30 p.m.), corresponding to the penultimate day of the regular season.
Larcamón, 41 years old and born in La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, developed his career entirely in South America and Mexico, where he coached Puebla, León, Necaxa and Cruz Azul in the Liga MX, a club from which he was fired in April despite having qualified the team for the Clausura 2026 Liguilla.
The Orlegi Group, owner of Sporting since 2022, already knew from its career in Mexican soccer the profile of the Argentine coach, who will take over from Borja Jiménez, who arrived on the red and white bench in the fall of 2025 after the dismissal of Asier Garitano and concludes his time with the team located in the middle of the table, without mathematical options for promotion or relegation.
