Roberto Martinez was proud that “The Commander” represents the Portuguese people and said he was relieved that the team has already qualified
Portugal's coach, Spaniard Roberto Martinez, recalled this Tuesday that Cristiano Ronaldo represents the Portuguese people wherever he is, in response to a question about the Portuguese star's visit to President Donald Trump at the White House.
“I like Knowing that we will be in “The World Cup, because seeing Cristiano Ronaldo at the White House without Portugal being at the World Cup would be tragic, so this is a very good thing,” Martinez told the press after speaking at a luncheon organized by the International Club of Portugal on leadership. The coach emphasized that “Cristiano is an ambassador for Portugal”: “Cristiano is more than just a football player; I think he can help with many things beyond football, so I think it's a happy day for all Portuguese people to see an ambassador for Portugal at the White House.” He added that the Al Nassr striker, “whatever his job or club, represents the national team, he represents the Portuguese people as well, wherever he is.” Cristiano is scheduled to be received this Tuesday by US President Donald Trump at the White House.
