Veljko Paunovic Hasn't Forgotten About Liga MX
The Real Oviedo coach believes there are players from Liga MX that could be useful in Spain. Paunovic has Mexicans on his radar.
Veljko Paunovic is leading a complex process in Spanish football. The former Chivas de Guadalajara coach aims to keep Real Oviedo in the first division. Paunovic believes there are players in Liga MX who could help him achieve that goal.
In an interview with Antonio Camacho of TUDN, Paunovic highlighted the good level of the Liga MX. At Real Oviedo, Veljko Paunovic has two players from Mexican soccer: Jose Salomon Rondon, who played for Tuzos del Pachuca, and Federico Vinas, who played for Club Leon.
“We have players who, although they are not Mexican, like Rondon and Federico Vinas, have played in Liga MX and have shown their level of excellence both there and here. Therefore, players who perform at their best in Mexico can also do so in Spain,” he explained.
But Veljko Paunovic does not rule out the possible signing of Mexican players. The Real Oviedo coach acknowledged that he has analyzed names with Jesus Martinez, president of Grupo Pachuca.
“I have some great players on my list and we have spoken with the sporting directors and with Don Jesus about bringing several Mexican talents here. The circumstances haven't been right, but they could happen in the future. It's not that they're lacking something, they just need the opportunity and to show that they've reached the competitive level that is very important in Spain,” he added.
Difficult start in LaLiga
This season, Real Oviedo has already played four matches. Veljko Paunovic's team began the campaign with 2-0 losses against Villarreal and 3-0 against Real Madrid. The “Carbayones” recovered with a 1-0 win against Real Sociedad, but were defeated again in the final matchday 2-0 against Getafe.
Real Oviedo is in 16th place in the general table. The Spanish team is two points away from the relegation zone. Oviedo's next match will be on Sunday, September 21, when they visit Elche at the Manuel Martinez Valero Stadium.
