The milestone came at Citizens Bank Park, where the player hit his first home run of the night in the third inning, a solo shot that allowed him to become the eighth catcher in MLB history to reach 300 home runs, with at least 75% of his games played as a catcher.
Shortly after, in the first inning of his next at-bat, he also recorded his 1,000th RBI of his career.
Among the greats at the position
The feat places Perez in an exclusive circle. Only seven other catchers have reached 300 home runs: Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Gary Carter, Ivan Rodriguez, and Lance Parrish, the latter an eight-time All-Star but not a Hall of Famer.
The Venezuelan punished starter Taijuan Walker twice. First, with a two-run homer in the first inning, the product of a cutter that sent him to left-center field. Then, he found another comfortable pitch, a misplaced splitter, and sent it into the left-center field seats. With those hits, he added his 26th and 27th home runs of his 2025 season.
In addition, he became the 13th active player to reach 300 home runs and the 10th with at least 1,000 RBIs. In the latter category, he joined Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, who also reached the milestone this season.
Chasing records in Kansas City
Within the Royals, Perez's stature continues to grow. Only he and George Brett have hit at least 200 home runs with the organization, and the Venezuelan is already 17 away from tying the club's all-time record, set by Brett at 317.
In RBIs, Perez is just the third player on the franchise with four figures, placing him 12 behind Hal McRae (1,012) for second place. Brett remains the leader with 1,596 RBIs.
