What were Messi's choices in The Best awards?
The Inter Miami player only voted for one Argentinian in all the awards. Lionel Messi participated as captain of Argentina
The Best 2025 awards took place this Tuesday, December 16. Several footballers were awarded various accolades throughout the ceremony. But the most important one went to Ousmane Dembele as the best footballer of the season. Lionel Messi voted for the Frenchman, and his criteria led him to choose the winners in other categories. Lionel Messi participated in the voting as captain of the Argentine national team. These votes include national team captains, coaches, journalists, and club managers. Together, they totaled 584 voters. This time, Messi was not among the award winners. It is certainly strange that this is the first time in a long time that the Argentine striker has not seen his name on the ballot. Each voter had to select the top three names in order of preference for the award candidates. In The Best FIFA Men's Player award, Lionel Messi placed Ousmane Dembele first, then Kylian Mbappe, and Lamine Yamal third. Messi had a clean sweep of victories in his votes. Regarding the best coach of the season, the Argentine footballer placed Luis Enrique in first place, Hansi Flick in second, and Mikel Arteta in third. As for the best goalkeeper of the season, Messi had a slight preference for his compatriot Emiliano Martinez. The Inter Miami player chose "Dibu" as his second choice. The first choice was Gianluigi Donnarumma and the third place went to Thibaut Courtois.
