About 300 people have been arrested in California by ICE
Immigrant advocacy groups estimated the number of detainees based on interviews with family members, conversations with elected officials, and direct reports.
At least 300 people have been arrested in the raids that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been carrying out in California since last week, operations that sparked violent protests in the Los Angeles area since Friday, June 6.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the director of the Los Angeles Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, Angelica Salas, said her group used interviews with family members, conversations with elected officials, and firsthand reports to determine an approximate number of arrests. "Our communities are terrified. We are terrified. People are outraged by what's happening," Salas said Tuesday at Los Angeles City Hall.
