Iran has expelled more than 3,000 Afghan refugees from its country. According to media reports, recently these refugees were forcefully sent to Afghanistan from Islam Kala and Pule Abrisham borders. According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of the Taliban's interim government in Afghanistan, approximately 3,123 Afghan expatriates were expelled from Iran on 24 and 25 January. In Iran in recent days, Afghan citizens have been detained and forcibly deported to Afghanistan.

According to Afghanistan's foreign ministry, many Afghans left the country after the Taliban took over power in Afghanistan due to concerns about life and dire economic conditions. Currently, more than 4 million Afghan citizens live in Iran. Taliban officials have said that Afghan refugees have entered Afghanistan through the borders of Herat and Nimruz provinces. At the same time, he appealed to the Iranian authorities to treat Afghan refugees fairly.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), the Taliban has dismissed all women from job positions in the civil service and barred girls from attending secondary school in most provinces. At the same time, Afghan refugees who have taken refuge in Iran and other neighboring countries have expressed disappointment over the new challenges.
