Omicron's sub-variant XBB.1.5 is spreading rapidly in many countries of the world. In particular, this variant is slowly showing its effect in the United States, on which the World Health Organization has expressed concern. The WHO has appealed to all countries to advise their passengers traveling to countries where the outbreak of corona infection is high, to wear masks. 

WHO senior emergency official - Catherine Smallwood said on Tuesday, travelers going to long distances and high-risk places should be advised to wear masks. Countries need to keep pre-travel testing as evidence and if action is considered, travel measures should be implemented in a non-discriminatory manner, he added.

World Health Organization officials said Omicron variant XBB.1.5 is highly transmissible and is responsible for 27.6 percent of corona cases in the United States as of Sunday. Subvariants have also been detected in several countries in Europe, officials said. 

Dr. NK Arora, Chairman of Covid Working Group, said on Tuesday that there is a lot of virus in the country but it is not so intense. We have increased genomic monitoring and started screening at the airport. Whatever we have found does not mean that we have found any new variant. 

Arora further said, sewage samples have also been taken but we do not see any possibility of any new variant or Covid surge in the coming weeks. He said, the Omicron variant that we are seeing in India can be seen in any part of the world. He said, Covid variants have not been able to gain a foothold or cause hospitalization. There is no need to panic. We need to keep a close watch on European, North American and East Asian countries.
