The activist Julián LeBarón announced that he will seek to compete for the governorship of Chihuahua in the 2027 elections, backed by the recently created party Somos México, which presented it as its citizen bet for the next electoral process in the entity. The announcement was made during a press conference headed by the national leader of the party, Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, who confirmed that LeBarón will be the organization's proposal "when the legal moment arrives" to define the candidacies. Acosta Naranjo explained that, as it is a citizen candidacy, the activist will not have to formally join the party, since the intention is to open spaces for profiles from civil society and not limit applications to militants. “This party is not for us, this party is for you, this party is for them,” stated the leader, pointing out that Somos México seeks to become a tool for citizen participation.

Julián LeBarón focuses his project on security and justice

By accepting the support of the party, Julián LeBarón confirmed that he will seek to lead a project focused on the defense of life, liberty and property, considering that these are the main challenges that Chihuahua faces. The activist assured that his aspiration has the support of various sectors of society, including Tarahumara and Mennonite communities, farmers, transporters and citizens who, he said, have joined the initiative. He also thanked the support of figures such as Javier Sicilia and Emilio Álvarez Icaza, with whom he has participated for years in mobilizations to demand justice for victims of violence and combat impunity.

The family tragedy that marked his activism

During his message, LeBarón recalled that his participation in citizen movements arose after the massacre of members of his family that occurred in 2019 in Bavispe, Sonora, an event that placed violence in Mexico at the center of the national and international debate. Since then, he noted, he has maintained an agenda focused on demanding justice for the victims and reiterated his support for search mothers and the groups that work to locate missing people.

Reveals death threats and federal protection

LeBarón reported that he has received death threats, a situation that forced part of his family to leave the country for security reasons. He also indicated that he maintains communication with federal authorities and confirmed that elements of the National Guard were assigned to provide him protection.

The economic relationship between Chihuahua and the United States stands out

The activist also made reference to the economic importance of Chihuahua, highlighting that it is one of the entities with the greatest commercial exchange with the United States. In that sense, he maintained that strengthening bilateral cooperation will be one of the axes of his proposal, considering that economic development and security must advance together.

Somos México promises to respect electoral times

For her part, Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo assured that Somos México will respect the deadlines established by electoral legislation and will avoid engaging in early campaign events.

The leader reiterated that the party's intention is to promote citizen profiles in the next elections and offer a different alternative to traditional structures.

At the end of the meeting, Julián LeBarón called on the inhabitants of Chihuahua to join his project and stated that he seeks to build a citizen option to face the problems of insecurity, violence and impunity that affect the state.
