Residents of Washington DC confronted ICE agents who were arresting two immigrants
During the arrest of two immigrants in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, the community shouted and booed the ICE agents.
“ICE go home,” are the words heard during a confrontation between Washington DC residents and at least seven immigration officers on August 21.
During an arrest that the uniformed officers were carrying out to two immigrants in Columbia Heights, the community began to boo them and shout slogans of rejection.
However, neighbors became outraged when officers smashed the front windows of the vehicle the immigrants were in. They immediately opened the doors and forcibly removed them, amid screams from witnesses.
According to Noticias Telemundo, the video circulating on social media was published by the Washington Post. In addition to urging them to go home, residents asked the officers to identify themselves, since some were wearing masks.
Finally, the detainees were forced into another vehicle that did not have a license plate. “They are our neighbors,” the community continued shouting, but the officers chose to ignore what was happening around them.
A dramatic arrest in Washington, DC
Hours before the incident in Columbia Heights, the desperate cries of a man identified as David Perez, of Mexican origin, were captured by telephone cameras, and even on television, in the heart of Washington, DC.
“I don’t owe anything! Help me!” the immigrant cried as he was arrested by several ICE officers.
David Perez was inside his vehicle, a light blue sedan, surrounded by federal immigration agents who had stopped him. Although he got out voluntarily, seconds later he tried to escape and was held to the ground.
At least five officers joined forces to restrain him on the ground, from where he began to ask for help from witnesses at the scene. "I don't owe anything, I don't owe anything," he shouted at the top of his lungs.
According to the agency's report to Telemundo,Perez “crossed the border illegally up to three times and has a final deportation order.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also noted that the man was arrested in January 2024 and is charged with alleged sexual assault of a minor under 13 years old.
