Faced with a wave of criticism, Miss Universe restricts comments on its social networks
On the night of November 20, Mexican Fatima Bosch became Miss Universe, the fourth crown for her country
The coronation of Fatima Bosch as Miss Universe 2025 unleashed a veritable "wave" of emotions in her country and also worldwide. After being crowned Miss Universe, Bosch began receiving a wave of hate on social media due to rumors of a "lack of transparency" within the pageant. This led the Miss Universe account to limit comments on recent posts. One of these posts was a video of Bosch posing at sunset. The post included the following message: "In the golden hour, she shines even brighter. ? This shot is from behind the scenes of the official Miss Universe production. Stay tuned for the final results." Despite the comment limits, some users still indicated that the Mexican contestant didn't deserve to win, while Miss Ivory Coast, Olivia Yace, did. The controversy behind the result found its main voice in Omar Harfouch, a former judge of the pageant, who accused her of using her influence. Harfouch alleged that Bosch had “bought” her crown and vowed to seek justice to take the title away from her. These accusations fueled hundreds of cruel comments in official Miss Universe publications, directed at both the winner and the event organization. In addition, another pageant judge suggested that the process was not as “transparent” as it once was. Faced with these accusations, the Miss Universe management did not remain silent. Raul Rocha, the pageant director, came forward to categorically deny Harfouch's claims. In a meeting with the media, Rocha stated that it was not a resignation, but a dismissal. Rocha was emphatic in pointing out that Harfouch's actions stemmed from a desire for attention: “He lied because he wants the spotlight for two minutes. And in Miss Universe, no one can have the spotlight; the only ones who can shine are our Miss Universe.” While the social storm raged, Fatima Bosch remained steadfast in her new role.Far from responding to the attacks, the Mexican woman has focused her message on sisterhood, the perseverance of dreams, and the importance of defending what one longs for with dignity.
