Elaine Miles, a Native American actress, reported being detained during an operation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), despite showing her identification to prove she was not an undocumented immigrant.

According to information released by According to The Seattle Times, the actress, originally from Pendleton, Oregon, was detained while walking to a bus stop in Redmond, Seattle. Miles described how four masked men wearing vests with the ICE logo got out of two black SUVs without front license plates and demanded to see her identification. She then handed them her card identifying her as a member of the Confederate Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon, which is accepted as an official document. However, the agents questioned its validity and allegedly even told her it “looked fake.” Faced with this embarrassing situation, the actress asked them to call the Umatilla Tribal Enrollment Office, whose phone number was on the back of her card. When they refused, Elaine Miles tried to use her cell phone, which they attempted to snatch from her. in a matter of seconds, then left the scene, leaving her alone.

The 65-year-old woman also revealed that her son and uncle had previously been detained by ICE agents for refusing to show their tribal identification. However, both were later released.
